Alicante-Elche Airport gets ready for Brexit changes EXPANSION: Alicante-Elche Airport to have more passport control booths ALICANTE-ELCHE Airport is in the process of expanding their passport control area. The works that begun in October last year and are expected to be completed in June of this year is partly due to the UK leaving the European Union (EU) in March 2019 and new EU regulations calling for increased control and passenger safety. With almost 6,000,000 passengers using the airport from the UK every year, they will need to go through different passport control then they currently do and so the facilities are being improved and increased to cope with the extra demand. The total cost for the enhancements is €1,116,800 and will see an extension of 900 square metres made up of 694m2 for passport control and 206m2 for new toilets. During the second phase of the works – also hoped to be completed for the summer – the number of passport checking booths, both manual and automatic, will be increased. That is expected to cost €900,000. Currently, in addition to the 26 passport checking areas, there are six automatic machines that allow the identity of the passenger to be verified quicker. The new system also checks fingerprints and uses facial recognition technology. © No part of this web site may be reproduced without written permission from the publishers. All rights reserved. Client Michael Yong receives a short treatment by business owner and registered acupuncturist Brenna Bouchard. 27. “If you haven’t tried it, then definitely try it because there is so much that it can do. It shows people they can take their own wellness into their own hands. You don’t have to rely on pills. If you’re in pain, it should be addressed,” said Bouchard. Before studying the traditional Chinese medicine at Grant MacEwan to become certified, Bouchard was introduced to acupuncture following a stubborn sports injury. It can be used to treat a range of conditions such as muscle pain, headaches, back pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, menopause and period pain. “To be fair, I’d say not a lot of people say, ‘I want to sign up to get some needles stuck in me today,’ but once they find out it’s not painful, people come back.” “It treats the body as a whole unit. Sometimes when you have a headache, you go for a massage and then you feel great but the pain comes back. But acupuncture addresses the root of the problem so it doesn’t come back later on,” she explained. Currently, she’s treating about 15 clients a week and with another acupuncturist coming on in the spring, the business is expected to treat about 50 people weekly.
